01 · The Result

A Website Built AroundFive Collections.

Navigation by collection, a detailed page for each frame, and product photography art directed to show the material and the craft.
  • A dark red tortoiseshell frame seen edge-on against a grey gradient, with small type at the top.
  • A black frame with a green lens seen edge-on against a grey gradient.
  • A pale olive frame with printed lettering on the arm, seen edge-on against a grey gradient.
  • A black frame with a dark lens seen edge-on against a grey gradient.

02 · What They Asked For

A Brand That PaysAttention To Detail.

Sample Eyewear makes glasses from plant-based materials. Its own line is that accuracy is only possible if you can pay attention to detail, and the frames are made to that standard.
The range comes in five collections, Dixon, Quebrata, Eddie, Apricot and Anastasiya, each in several colorways. We designed the website around those collections and art directed the product photography.
  • A woman with pale hair looks at the camera in black oval sunglasses and a cream roll-neck top.

03 · What We Built, In Order

A Site And PhotographyFor The Frames.

The pages and the pictures were built together, so the site shows a frame the way the photographs do.
  1. 01

    Collection Navigation

The Sample Eyewear collection page: a list of frames by name and colorway with prices, over a blurred portrait.

The site is organised by collection. Each frame is listed by name and colorway, with its price and a way to add it to the bag.

  2. 02

    Website Design

The Sample Eyewear home page: a red frame in close-up, a best seller list, a black frame with grey lenses and two portraits.

A home page that leads with the frames: a close-up, a best seller list and portraits. Colorways carry names such as Kyoto Tortoise, Xanadu Green and Downtown Brown.

  3. 03

    Art Direction

A black and white close-up of glasses on a textured surface, above a pale panel with small type.

Product photography directed to show the materiality and the craftsmanship of each frame.

04 · What This Taught Us

Show The MaterialBefore You Describe It.

Plant-based frames are hard to explain and easy to see. The photography does the explaining: one frame at a time, edge-on, with the surface and the colour left to speak.
A site for a product with this much detail should stay out of its way. Organise by collection, give each frame its own page, and let the pictures carry the argument.
